In the fashion world “urban” is code for “stolen from black people”.

Whenever Black people have something new, white people will be there. Whenever Black people innovate new fashion and styles, white people will be there. Whenever Black people spit new words and terms into existence, white people will be there. Whenever Black people seep something fresh and new into their culture, white people will be there. Black people are creating and innovating too much, to stand there without getting paid for it. Just telling them to stop trying on our culture, is not enough. Black communities, black owned businesses, black owned facilities, black owned media outlets, black owned movie production companies, and black on black love is the only way to preserve what’s ours. Because when you capitalize as a people, and the creators speak as for what and what belongs to who officially, the thieves can only cry about it, not argue. When you do, you have control of what’s yours. If not, we can slowly drift away into a ‘Hey, that used to be our thing’ trance. Black people are innovating too much, for what they create to not just be theirs, in a system created to destroy the history of Black people.
